Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) is committed to nurturing young Malaysian talent through our scholarship programme. Our scholarship recipients will have access to the best learning experience at top universities per BNM's list of approved universities to study Economics, Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Law and Computer Science.

BNM offers two types of scholarship programmes:

Kijang Scholarship 2024

The Kijang Scholarship is awarded to eligible individuals to pursue pre-university programmes at BNM's approved pre-university colleges. This scholarship provides tuition fees, subsistence allowance, as well as related scholarship allowances.

The sponsorship to pursue an undergraduate programme is subject to the scholar meeting these requirements:

  • Excellent examination result: A minimum of 8As (A and A+ only) obtained for SPM examinations
  • Strong leadership qualities, proven teamwork capabilities, outstanding performance in extra-curricular activities
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Not exceeding 19 years of age on 1 July 2024

Upon successful completion of their undergraduate programmes, scholars will be required to serve their employment bond with BNM (i.e. ratio of one year of study to two years of service).

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified for further assessments.

Undergraduate Scholarship 2024

The Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to eligible individuals who have received offers to pursue or are currently pursuing undergraduate studies.

The award of undergraduate scholarship is also available to existing pre-university scholarship recipients, subject to meeting BNM's requirements:

  • Excellent examination results in any of the following:
    • A-Level: Minimum of 3As
    • STPM / Diploma / Matriculation: Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50
    • Australian Matriculation: Minimum ATAR of 85%
    • American Foundation Program: Minimum SAT score of 1,500
    • International Baccalaureate (IB): 38
  • For candidates currently pursuing undergraduate study: Minimum current CGPA of 3.50
  • SPM: Minimum of 5 credits including Bahasa Melayu, English and Mathematics
  • Strong leadership qualities, proven teamwork capabilities, outstanding performance in extra-curricular activities
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Not exceeding 25 years of age on 1 July 2024
  • Obtained an offer to pursue, or is currently pursuing, undergraduate study at one of BNM's list of approved universities.

This scholarship is inclusive of tuition fees, subsistence, and related scholarship allowances.

Successful applicants will study disciplines that are related to Economics, Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Law and Computer Science.

Upon successful completion of the undergraduate programme, scholars will be required to be available for employment at BNM and will be bonded following the ratio of one year of study to two years of service.

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified for further assessments.

Scholarship FAQs

1. What do the scholarships offer to a successful applicant?
The Bank¡¯s scholarship will cover expenses inclusive of tuition fees, return flight ticket (only for overseas students), subsistence and related scholarship allowances.
2. How do I submit my application?
To submit your application, click on the "Apply here" link at the end of every Scholarship segment to begin your application process.
3. When do I need to provide the supporting documents?
You are not required to provide supporting documents at this point but should you be shortlisted for an interview you will need to bring along your relevant documents, certificates and transcripts in the original format.
4. I do not have SPM examination results because I studied overseas. Am I still eligible to apply?
We will consider outstanding examination results as listed in the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Scholarship requirements above.
5. I am currently studying A-levels and will sit for the exams in June this year. Which examination results can I provide in the meantime?
You can provide us with your Advanced Subsidiary (AS) results instead of your forecasted results.
6. Is the Bank's scholarship limited to certain subjects only?
Applicants¡¯ fields of study must be related to the Bank¡¯s core business and activities: Economics, Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Law, Data Science, and Computer Science.
7. Which universities are considered acceptable for undergraduate or postgraduate study?
Scholarship programmes are available for study at local and overseas universities. Click here for the Bank's list of approved universities.
8. What does the selection process involve?
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an assessment centre designed to assess participants on their suitability, tenacity, interpersonal and communication skills, commitment, demonstration of team-work and aptitude.
9. How many scholarships are awarded every year?
The number of scholarships awarded varies from year to year because it is dependent upon the quality of applications received as well as suitability of candidates for the respective categories.
10. What is the minimum grade I am expected to achieve during my study programme?
The Bank will discuss the minimum grades required for the scholar to maintain upon award of the scholarship.
11. I just missed the application closing date. Can you accept my applications if I submit it now?
Applications after the specified closing date will not be accepted. Should you meet the minimum requirements, you are strongly encouraged to apply the following year.
12. I applied last year but was not successful. If I reapply, will my application be considered?
All applications are treated as a fresh application. Thus, your application will be accepted for consideration if it meets the stated requirements.
13. Are the scholarship programmes offered by the Bank open only to Malaysian citizens?
Yes, the scholarship programmes offered by the Bank are only open to Malaysian citizens.
14. Upon completion of the study programme would I be contractually bounded to work at the Bank?
Yes, you would be bonded with the Bank following the ratio of 1 year of study : 2 years of service with the Bank. For example, upon completion of a three (3) years undergraduate programme under the Bank¡¯s sponsorship, you are required to serve the Bank for six (6) years.
