Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) is pursuing broader research initiatives with researchers by introducing the Research Support Initiative (RSI).

Research Support Initiative (RSI)

This program is designed for post-graduate and post-doctorate candidates specialising in econometrics, macroeconomics, monetary and financial economics, and machine learning/data science.

The goal of this programme is to provide support to candidates conducting research in areas of interest to the Bank.

The research areas we are looking into include:

  1. Inflation dynamics in the post-COVID environment.
  2. Monetary transmission mechanism.
  3. Role of the exchange rate in monetary policy.
  4. Interaction between monetary and fiscal policy and role of government debt in exiting policy support.
  5. Impact of digitalisation on money and monetary policy.
  6. Climate change and its relationship with monetary policy
  7. Interlinkages between monetary policy and financial stability.
  8. Effectiveness of unconventional monetary policy.
  9. Economic recovery post-COVID and long-term impact of COVID on the economy.
  10. Labour market, wage determination, and price-setting behaviour.
  11. Leveraging big and alternative data for macroeconomic analysis and forecasting.
